Traditional Crypto Casinos
On traditional crypto casinos before you can start betting you need to deposit to the crypto casino wallet. Once deposited you need to fully trust the casino. You can’t force them to send you deposited money back or payout your. For verification of the bets most casinos use some kind of a provably fair scheme, where a user can verify if the bet result is valid. But the bets are stored centrally on the casino and the bets are not signed, so the casino could create fake bets or manipulate the placed bets and the user could not prove it.
Stake is a good example of the change of crypto casino over the last years. In early days the fees were very low, and the games were homemade and everyone could verify the fairness. But today the have an enormous number of Slots, which are bought from third parties. These slots are taking fees up to 4.1% and the fairness cannot be verified by the costumer with a 100% probability.
Ethereum Smart Contract Based Casinos
If done right, the main disadvantage doing everything on chain are the high gas fees. With one bet currently costing more than 30$ per transaction fees only very high bets are reasonable.
Additionally most smart contract use other parties for the random number generation. E.g at Etheroll the user needed to trust RANDOM.org and Oraclize.

For all games at Dicether the fees are 1.5%.
